ABOUT FAT & FURIOUS RACING
We are a Drag racing team from Houston BC. My name is Rick, my wife is Susan and my crew consists of my two sons, Dallas and Logan. We are a small grass roots amateur race team, competing in local events for the thrill of racing.
It all started after High school, when a few buddies and I started building cars and competing in the Telkwa Demolition Derby. After five years of demolition derby, we progressed to "Hit to Pass racing at PGARA Speedway in Prince George BC. We did that a few times. Although a lot of fun, we thought this would be a lot more fun if we didn't have to build a complete new car every time.
After a couple year hiatus, I teamed up with co-worker Lyle Miner, to build a stock car. We competed at the Terrace speedway in street stock class for three years. We were green as grass when we started. I remember the first time I hit the oval track with our first car, I was just tearing up the track (so I thought) sliding around the turns, tires howling. I came into the pits and said to my buddy "pretty awesome driving eh? He said "man, that was embarrassing…..we can't go back out there like that!" Ha-Ha. About that time, a veteran racer who wasn't racing that day, came over and said "I think I'll help pit with you guys today. That was a lot of fun, and we learned a lot from our fellow racers.
I took a few more years off from racing, and got back into it in 2003. This time I got into Drag racing. I bought a 1981 Z-28 Camaro drag car from a guy in Richmond BC. He said it was an 11. second car. He lied! Ha-ha. I was teasing my buddy Nuno, how I was going to beat his Camaro. The first pass I made in the car was lined up against Nuno at the Terrace drags time trials. I tree'd him, then watched him smoke my butt by nearly 2 seconds in a 1/8 mile race! As much as I tried not to let on, it was a humbling experience and a lesson well learned. Talk is cheap, horsepower isn't!
We played with the 81 Camaro for three years. Taking it from a high 13 second car, to a mid 11 second car. It had a 350ci sbc with a TH350 tranny with transbrake, 4.56 geared 10 bolt diff, with strange spool and axles. We tried Nitrous and liked it. The only thing with NOS is…..it runs out! I finally went to a Ron's Flying Toilet alcohol injection system. I loved it! Easy to tune, no more engine running hot, and unbelievable throttle response. I sold the Camaro to Andrew Culkins from Kitimat BC in January 2008.
In the spring of 2007 I bought a 1978 Malibu from a guy in Salmon Arm BC. The car was built and raced in Mission BC. The Malibu is back halved, running a 410ci big block Chevy, with a Ron's Terminator alcohol injection system. Powerglide with a brake. 5500 converter, 4.88's with a spool, ladder bars and coil overs. The first time out with the Malibu was at the Terrace Drags. It was disappointing to say the least. The car came with a delay box and throttle stop set up. I will freely admit to not knowing how to properly operate the set up, and the car wasn't laying down the numbers I was hoping for. I disconnected the box and removed the throttle stop, saving them for a later date when I completely understand how to operate them. I now leave off the transbrake and all is well. Our best time so far is 10.49 @ 127mph in the ¼ mile at 2150ft in Houston BC, and 6.41 @ 106mph in the 1/8 mile at 613ft in Terrace BC. We are happy with these numbers. We are not looking to break into the 9.99/6.39 brackets at this time.
